Chapter 5: What do I like?
I love new technology, its no secret. I'm a gadget guy. A printer for my toaster, hook me up! People look at me funny when I buy some new technology that they dont understand. Then I make it do cool stuff, and I'm their hero again. I was an EARLY user of the MP3 standard, back in the day when it took 8 hours with a DOS based program to rip a CD into mp3s. People thought I was crazy, but look where we are today.
Here is My MP3 Album list
I'm into old tech. Laser Disk players, CED players, old video games, old computers, all that jaz. My job and hobbies force me to embrace new technology, but I feel strangely drawn to learn, research, catalog, and collect as much of the "old tech" that I can get my hands on. Everything EXCEPT 8 track tapes and LPs. I really enjoy the game of finding somthing that does not work, learning all about it, finding parts, complaining how hard the parts are to find, and fixing it. Even better is to break it, to learn about it, and THEN fix it!
The latest fun has been found buying up the now failed "internet appliances" and "hacking" them into submission and using them for what I want, vs what their maker intended them for. Its quite a game!
Technology is a gift of God. After the gift of life it is perhaps the greatest of God's gifts. It is the mother of civilizations, of arts and of sciences.
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
