Texas Instruments 99/4A Computers

Welcome to Rob's TI-MBX History page!

My first experience with the MBS system was at the home of Blaine Richard, who lived in a little town called Fern Park (just outside of Orlando). He ran T.I.T.S. bbs (Texas Instruments Telecommunications System). And evidentally had lots of money, because it seemed like he had everything that existed for the T.I. I was about 14, and poor, so the only way I got to play with these nifty toys was to go to his place. Then I would go home to my TI 99/4A with tape recorder, and pond away writing code. I learned to create on this system Jumping very quickly to graphics which the TI was fairly strong it, compared to the TRS-80 model 1-3s that I was used to.

Blaine might actually stumble across this and read it one day, most likely he will fall over laughing.

I remember very well how awesome the idea of voice recognition was even then (some 15 years ago, wow) Today the technology is still weak (in my humble opinion)

In 1991, a man who was a TI dealer in the TI's hayday decided to unload a large pile of TI stuff, and I managed to stumble upon it, and bought the whole lot, just to be able to have the MBX system... He was rather anal about saving books, and registration cards, and that stuff, so I was lucky to end up with lots of that kinda thing (the stuff you don't usually get from flea markets and garage sales).

This equipment has been in boxes in storage for the last six years, but as I zwas working on the rest of my Classic Video Game and Computer Colection I decided to search through the web for more people that had refrences to these... Hapily (and not) I havent so far found any!

If you or someone that you know is the proud owner of one of these units, PLEASE email me!
Given the limited number made, the long period of time, and the all but disapearence of TI, There are asuredly more of these in land fills, than are left in use.
